Father’s Day Reflections: The Gift of Time

Father’s Day wasn’t about the gifts—it never really is. It was about time. Moments that turn into memories, the kind that remind us why family will always be life’s greatest blessing.
This weekend was full of them. A Friday dinner with my wife, our daughter, our youngest son and his wife, who are about to step into parenthood any day now. A Saturday morning of golf with our other two sons. Then, the surprise—our kids gifting me a Blackstone, knowing how much I love to grill. Their excitement wasn’t just about the gift. It was about knowing me, about celebrating the moments that matter.
That afternoon, our kids and grandkids all gathered for lunch, laughter filling the air as we sat together. And later, when I fired up the Blackstone for the first time, I made smash burgers and hash browns for my wife and me—simple, but perfect. I snapped a picture and sent it to the family. Not just to show off the meal, but to share the moment.
Sunday, we cheered on one of our grandsons at his baseball game, then closed out the weekend with dinner alongside his family. From start to finish, the weekend was a reminder: Family time is the best time!
And here’s what I’ve learned—whether it’s a meal, a game, a conversation, or simply being present, these are the moments that Stretch the Dash.
So here’s my challenge to you: Make the call. Send the message. Plan the dinner. Share a meal—because it’s never really about the food, it’s about who’s gathered around it.
